Welcome 2023

Happy New Year! We begin a new chapter in the story of Derita with Derita Design. Formerly known as Saturn Atelier, opened in 2021, this makerspace was built to teach design and crafting skills to the residents of this community and beyond. In the past 2 years we have held workshops, open houses, and most recently completed a campaign where the community brought their used plastic bags to create a Bus Stop Bench.

This effort led to the idea that this space should not only serve the community for individual design knowledge, but to be a force in the shaping of the community itself. Derita Design seeks to bolster Derita as a Design destination. The big addition for 2023 to the makerspace will be a designer residency that will commence in the summer. This will bring a creative to the community where they will create works for the neighborhood and teach workshops, further building the store of design knowledge that already exists here.

Overall, this year will see the workshop host monthly classes, open houses and become a friendly and novel activity space for the area.
